Mac OS X 10.7.5 freezing since update

Hello All,

Since updating my MacBook Pro last week to Mac OS X 10.7.5 from 10.7.4 it is constantly freezing. It seems to freeze when I am using Chrome or iTunes. I have done the Combo Update and it still freezes. Screen freezes in mid action, with any music or sounds stuck in repeat. This requires power cycle to restart. All relevant info on system below. Any suggestions (besides erasing hard drive and reinstalling all software 😝 ) appreciated.

It appears that some video cards and RAM sticks may get overheated when Lion is running, especially when executing some demanding tasks (play music, play videos, navigating rich internet websites, etc). With some Mac Pros 1,1 I experimented continuous freezing issues which disappeared when I installed the free utility Macs Fan Control and set the CPU_MEMORY fan to a Custom>Sensor-based temperature ranging from 61 C (start increasing fan speed) to 73 C (maximum temperature). This way, the app increases the fan speed only when it's needed and helps the Mac keep the temperature between the above given safe values.

I'm having this same problem (Mac OS X Server 10.7.5 on a 2007 Mac Pro). Screen freezes up, sometimes graphics get wacky (elements disappear, etc.), and while you can still see the cursor (at least partially), nothing responds. The machine is still working otherwise: you can SSH into it, mail and DNS still works, etc.

Here are the specs for my iMac:

2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 with 6MB on-chip shared L3 cache

4GB (two 2GB) of 1333MHz DDR3 memory

AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR5 memory

I uninstalled Chrome because it started with that. That did not fix my issue. Looks like I will have to reimage which is not COOL at all. At least with Win 7 I can rollback updates. Can't use my computer because of a system update. They should give you a free call because their software is what broke it in the first place.

Hi Ypresis,

Just got back to my MacBook and still crashing. Here's my video info:

Intel HD Graphics 3000:

Chipset Model: Intel HD Graphics 3000

Type: GPU

Bus: Built-In

VRAM (Total): 512 MB

Vendor: Intel (0x8086)

Device ID: 0x0126

Revision ID: 0x0009

Have 16 GB of aftermarket RAM but that's not causing it. I upgraded RAM a long time before this problem ever crept up. Really it's just the 10.7.5 upgrade.
