Try resetting it by holding the Home button and Sleep/Wake button together at the same time until you see the white Apple logo.

Has this started happening since an iOS update? And does it crash apps or the whole iPad system?

    1. Double-click the Home button to close all Inactive Apps in Task Bar

    2. Hold the Apps in Task Bar down for a second or two until you see the minus sign

    3. Tap the minus sign to close Apps

    4. Tap center of screen to return to Home Screen

    5. Reset iPad. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo.

I had 100 apps open!!! (or  is that running?) either way, I have tried that, lets see what happens. Fingers crossed.

Having the same problem. The iPad I use is shared among my family. I get the most usage besides my grandma playing SpellTower for hours at a time. I'm the only person who experiences crashes. Happens frequently across the whole device. Recently the App Store crashes so quickly I can barely browse for more than five minutes. I have done the Manuel memory flush and even restored the device. No luck so far. Some apps crash after normal extended usage while others crash after a short period of time. For example I could be reading TNW Magazine for 40+ and then the app may crash versus using Facebook for about ten minutes or more then experiencing a crash. The iPad only has 28 apps and four movies on it; no music, TV shows or any iCloud apps syncing with my account. Oddly I haven't run into issues playing a possessor intensive game like Infinifty Blade.

EDIT: At the time of this post I have been listening to music via Songa for over an hour and this has been the only app within the time period to not crash yet(along with Google). The apps that have crashed during this time are the App Store, and Facebook.

I've been having this same issue for a while now too.

iPad 1. Latest 5.0 iOs (latest allowed for 1st gen anyway)

I've opened the 'bottom tray' that displays the latest apps I've used, deleted them out, then restarted iPad using the hold sleep+home buttons, even reset the iPad which helps for only a little while.

Basically I've done everything that's ever be recommended but nothing works.

Do not do this, unless you are bored. Closing all inactive apps does nothing to fix problems.
