iOS 6 beta 4 expired

I know but he is not even a developer and he won't help.

Do you live near an Apple store? At this point throwing yourself on their mercy might be your best bet. Without "being" the developer who put the beta on your phone, I don't know what else to tell you.

Well, if you can't find an unapproved method of updating to the release version of iOS 6, then you can either throw your phone away or pay $99 to join the paid developer program and obtain the release version there.

Consider the $99 the cost of not performing due diligence before allowing your so-called friend to install the beta.

At least you'll have your phone back and you'll have learned a valuable lesson: There's a price to be paid for everything.

I know and believe me the lesson has been learned.

If I pay to have this developer account, how should I proceed afterwards ?

I don't mind about the payment at this point.

do you have to pay the $99 to get at the software? If so, you click to download it, but you might have to get XCode too, and use the organizer window to tell XCode you're using the phone for development.

Your friend is a total jerk: he could fix this in a half hour on his machine and resolve this no sweat.

i do have the software already but nothing seems to work for me.

I can create the developer account if that is the only way of solving this. I don't even know what an xcode is.

Like I said, if you live near an Apple store, go there. Even if you have to pay the $99 developer fee, you can get them to fix it for you (I would hope). Make a genius appointment. This stuff starts getting deep for those who don't do development.

Just a comment to all of you:

If your phone is put into recovery-mode (DFU) it is my experince thhat you sill always be able to reinstall an ipsw.

I had thought this too. Not sure why that's not working.

Likely you have the wrong ipsw then. Which exact iPhone model do you have? You have to be exact when downloading the ipsw.

I have an iphone 4S.

I have downloaded this : iPhone4,1_6.0_10A403_Restore.ipsw

That's the correct one. I just restored mine without a hitch. Have you ever jailbroken it? Did your friend?? If so, all bets might be off. I'm out of my depth at this point. So sorry. Good luck finding someone who understands what to do to fix this!
