Since upgrading to iOS 6, my talkatone app won't ring...

when I receive a new text. I used to be able to upload custom ringtones to the app and it would make my phone ring. I contacted talkatone support and they said apple disabled this feature when they created iOS 6. This is extremely frustrating as now it only beeps twice quietly so if I leave my phone downstairs or my kids are being too loud (which is always lol) I can't hear new texts. Does anyone know if there is a way around this?? Also, the search function in the App Store doesn't work. I do a search and the screen stays blank (and yes I am searching for things that I KNOW exist in the app store).
