Archive Utility has stopped working

Hi Folks,

Any idea how to reinstall this program? It hass topped working - I double-click on a .zip, for example, and Archive Utility opens up - but just hangs in what appears to be a state of starting the decompression process. Force Quit is my only option. I'd like to get this working (and not replace it with something else). Is there a preference file or something that can be tossed? Can I reinstall it?

Thanks.

Confirmed.

Had same problem listed here (Archive Utility just hangs on various archives). Reboot would fix (restarts appleeventsd), but that's disruptive:

1) Run Terminal from the Applications -> Utilities folder

2) Type: sudo kill -9 $(pgrep appleeventsd)

3) Enter admin password

4) Fixed.

Hope this helps. I like it better than dealing with Activity Monitor and remembering to show all.

This also worked for me - force quitting appleeventsd. Thaks a bunch!

I moved over to Mountain Lion from Lion about 6 weeks ago.

It seems to me that this is just another in an ever increasing list of issues with Apple software which is not just limited to MAC OSX. I'm experiencing other issues with iOS6 on iPad and iPhone platforms.

Disappointing that Apple have let things slide so much accross all platforms.
