I just ordered a docking station for my Macbook Pro. The Macbook docks in the docking station by closing it and setting it vertically on the dock.
Let's say am using the Macbook docked and I power it off. How do I power it back on without having to remove it from the doc, open the clamshell, and pressing the power button inside? Is there some kind of external power trigger that could be initiated by the dock?

AFAIK only way is to sleep/wake up, it is not possible to power on with closed lid.

I won't blame the docking station company for this lack of feature. IMHO Apple should have added an external powerup interface (as simple as an extra pin on the power input or perhaps a mini-headphone type jack that triggers the power on sequence when the signal goes high).
look at it from other point - no much sense to exactly shut down instead of deep sleep. And Apple will never add pinhole for this - they even removed reset and CD eject pinholes years ago 😉
True about the sleeping feature. I will just use that and not worry about Apple adding pinholes. 🙂
