According to What's New in Verison 1.1.2 of Podcasts, released today, Apple has fixed this issue:

Resolves an issue where Podcasts may unexpectedly play after a phone call or alarm

Unfortunately, iTunes U app has the same bug. I've sent Apple feedback. I hope they already know about it and will fix it soon.

It's still happening to me. Iphone 5 latest ios 6.0.1

no cables I switch off the podcast properly and it still pops up after a call - has been quite embarrasing too!

    This worked for me:

    1. I closed the music app. by double clickingthe home button.

    2. the open apps will appear along bottom of display.

    3. I held my finger on the music app until it began shacking and the minus sign appeared.

    4. touched the red minus sign to close the music app.

    5. rebooted the phone (may not be neccesary)

    6. Music no longer plays after phone calls, at least for now.

Nice to see this has been going on since 2012 AND ITS STILL NOT FIXED EVEN ON iOS 8.1.3

I Have a brand new iPhone 5s and my phone does this. I dont use a cable but i do use a bluetooth headset.

Has anyone found a solution? I tried closing the music app and it still does it!

I have an Iphone 5s, previously a 4s, and previously a 3s.   Every single one of these phones regardless of IOS version has done this.  It is clearly a bug that Apple does not deem to be bad enough to warrant spending the development cycles to fix.

Similar problem with iPhone 5 and iOS 8.  I tried the one fix suggested, but don't get a minus sign next to the music app after tapping and holding it.
