Loop Problems

Still having problems with loops so from the top...

Had my apple mac only a couple of weeks and am ready for throwing it out of the window.

I have a load of loops from the days when I used to use ableton on the pc - they are on external harddrive. Plugged this in and imported loads of loops to Garageband

Some loops wont play beacsue they are in the wrong format, some loops have copied themselves 2 or 3 times, some loops are just plain rubbish alot of the loops work ok but ... I want to get rid of all the loops and start again.

problem is I cant find where the loops are - im told they should be in /library/applicaton support/garageband/apple loops THEY ARENT

or they could be in library/application support/garageband/apple loops THEY ARENT or they could be in /library/audio/apple loops/apple THEY ARENT

Ive spent a whole week trying to locate these loops, I even unplugged my hard drive in case they are on a path from there. I search for a loop in finder - cant find the loop - so how is it still in the loop browser ?

Ive tried uninstalling garage band and installing again, turning off the machine , tried to delete loops individually but no - BUT THE LOOPS ARE STILL THERE !!!!!!

what do i need to do to get rid of these loops and start a fresh with garageband ?

Thanks to the previous two replys by the way, but om still in the same situation

someone please help before i go mad !!!!!!

many thanks

Tell me where and when, I'll be there to catch it!

or they could be in /library/audio/apple loops/apple THEY ARENT

That's actually the place where the loops are stored normally, but you said yourself that you "imported" them from the external drive - if you just dragged them into GB, they still reside on that drive. GB doesn't (like iTunes) create copies in its own specified place.

That's because the loop index is different from the loops themselves. Once a loop is in the index, it stays there (unless you delete it) even if it's not on your disk any more (you shouldn't be able to use it though - have you tried?).

what do i need to do to get rid of these loops and start a fresh with garageband ?

The cleanest way is to quit GB, go to HD/Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index and delete everything that's in there. GB should start up with an empty Loop Browser, and you re-index your loops by dragging the ones you still want onto the Loop Browser.

Hi Christoph

many thanks for you reply, I arent really going to throw it out of the window - but here's the latest... there is no Library/Audio/Apple loops I deleted that the other day but the loops must still be in existence somewhere as they are all in my loop browser and I can still use them all.... VERY STRANGE

any more ideas please ?

many thanks

Stuart
