Network Shares Won't Show Up on Sidebar?

When I first upgraded to Mountain Lion (and in previous versions), I was able to get network shares added to the sidebar (under "Devices").

After updating to 10.8.2, they will no longer display on the sidebar at all. I've tried pressing Command + T to add them to sidebar, and sometimes they will show up for a fraction of a second and then disappear.

I've deleted the Finder plist file and the Sidebarlists plist files. I've changed permissions on them so everyone can read/write (I'm the only user of my computer, so I don't need to worry about other users messing with them). I'm at a loss here.

I have 5 shares that are connected via AFP, and 2 that are connected via SMB. The AFP shares are coming from an Xserve running OS X Server 10.5.8 (fully updated), and the SMB shares are from a Dell tower running Windows Server 2003 R2 (fully updated as well).

This was working fine in 10.8.1, but seems to have broken in 10.8.2.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get the network shares back in the sidebar?

Nevermind, I found a workaround. Just wanted to post this for anyone who happens to find this via Google or the Apple Discussions search.

Apparently a Finder window must be open when the shares are mounted, otherwise they will not show up in the sidebar.
