You don't need any other tools.  Cause once you need a special tool, if you don't have a backup, you are more likely to end up with no data, than fixed data.    So backing up is more essential than ever.

To do what? mess up your system like MacKeeper would. Approach it a different way, what is it that you want to achieve, that will decide the software you need.

There are no known viruses attacking Macs so you do not need anti-virus software.

If you feel you absolutely have to have anti-virus software, two of the better that people on here like are ClamXAV and SOPHOS, both are free downloads.

But you do not need anti-virus with a Mac.

Are you a recent Windows convert?

Intego makes firewall software, which Mac OS X has built-in.    Intego makes anti-virus software, which can be gotten for the Mac.   Sophos and ClamAV are probably the best anti-virus for the Mac.  Though I've never needed any.  I just don't open attachments from people I don't know. Or I don't use an Office suite that supports macros.

What did you use before the iMac? an older Mac?
