Somehow, I got on a site~no idea how!~and I had to agree to consider downloading by hitting OK. I wasn't going to so I quit Safari~still there. I force quit Safari~still there! I had to hit okay to that stupid window before I could even use Safari. Would that hurt my computer as some people are saying??

    Thanks,

    slbyard

You're going to have to provide more information, what site? what were you trying to download?

    You didn't install MacKeeper, correct?

If you are using Lion 10.7.5, when you quit Safari - or even force quit it - it will reopen the next time you start it with last page you were on. This was a 'feature' enabled by default in Lion (its disabled by default in 10.8).

You can override it in two ways - hold down the 'option' key when you quit Safari, or hold down the 'shift' key when you start Safari.

Equally, you can turn this 'feature' Off (a good idea... ) by unchecking the box in

 > System Preferences > General | Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps

As for whether you caused any harm to your computer by hitting 'OK', you'll have to provide more details about what site you were on and what exactly you were being asked to confirm with the 'OK' button.

no I didn't install~I was on some blog and my mouse jumped when i was clicking(I really do need a mousepad) it went to the 'mackeeper official site' and the Safari window pops up on my screen and it said Please consider downloading mackeeper. I couldn't get out of the window without pressing OK and I didnt want to but there was nothing else to do. SO, am I okay?

    Thanks

Thanks, I went to system preferences and saw that that button was checked~I unchecked so thank you for pointing that out-I would have never saw that on my own!

Have a look in your Downloads folder. To be sure, when you click on the Downloads folder, go up to the menu bar and choose 'View > Arrange by > Date Added' which will sort your most recent downloads from the top going down to the oldest ones.

If you find 'mackeeper.pkg' or something similarly named, just throw it in the trash. Job done. If you don't find a download, nothing to worry about. Either way, you haven't installed MacKeeper unless you clicked on the downloaded package and went through the install wizard (which presumably  you'd remember doing if you did it!).

Ok, no I don't have it. And no, even though I forget many things, I'm fairly sure that I would remember that!

    Thanks again for the help.

So what about the issues Mackeeper claims they find on your Mac. Since there are no known viruses that attack Macs, are those just claims that they are making?
