Ipod Nano 4G not showing up on Itunes

Whenever I go to plug in my Ipod Nano 4G without Itunes already being up, it should automatically bring up Itunes but it doesn't. So, I bring up Itunes and then plug my Ipod into the USB port and it still does not show up in the SOURCE location column on the lefthand side, thus I am not able to transfer music I've DL'ed and bought from the Itunes store to my Ipod. If there are any helpful solutions to my problem out there, my eyes are wide open and reading so... please help!
Sincerely,
Someone Who Would Like Their Music!

Only if you have "open iTunes when this iPod is attached" selected for your iPod.

Try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.

Still no joy, see these.

Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod.

iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes.

iPod does not appear in iTunes.

Fast user switching in Windows XP is not supported.

Strange iPod behavior.
