iPad 3, iOS 6, Wifi issues

Here's a list of issues I've had since upgrading to iOS 6 on my iPad 3 wifi-only about a week ago:

  1. Facebook app - unable to post any content via the app over wifi. However, Siri is able to post content on my behalf over wifi. No problems with anything when thethered to my iPhone 4's (on iOS 5.1.1) or iPhone 4S's (iOS 5.1.1) 3G cellular network.
  2. App Store not working / iTunes store not connecting - has seemed to have fixed itself...for now...but seems intermittent, sometimes functioning sometimes not.
  3. National Geographic Newsstand app - cannot restore purchases or download issues over wifi. Error message simply comes up that "can't connect to server at this time". Everything works fine when thethered to my iPhone 4's (on iOS 5.1.1) or iPhone 4S's (iOS 5.1.1) 3G cellular network. I have a subscription, that displays as "active" in my iTunes account.
  4. Popular Mechanics Newsstand app - cannot restore purchases or download issues over wifi. Everything works fine when thethered to my iPhone 4's (on iOS 5.1.1) or iPhone 4S's (iOS 5.1.1) 3G cellular network. I have a subscription, that displays as "active" in my iTunes account but "inactive" in the newsstand app.
  5. Time magazine app - cannot see the store at all or download any issues over wifi. Everything works fine when thethered to my iPhone 4's (on iOS 5.1.1) or iPhone 4S's (iOS 5.1.1) 3G cellular network.
  6. The Economist newsstand app - will not restore my previous purchases over wifi. Everything works fine when thethered to my iPhone 4's (on iOS 5.1.1) or iPhone 4S's (iOS 5.1.1) 3G cellular network.

I have already performend numerous tests / suggestions from the forum, listed below, but the above problems are persisting:

  1. Yes, I have performed a full restore
  2. Yes, I have reset all network settings
  3. Yes, I have changed my wifi proxy connection to auto
  4. Yes, I have reset my router
  5. Yes, I have hard-rebooted my iPad
  6. Yes, I have played with the date/time
  7. Yes, I have toggled wifi on/off

I am running wifi using a Belkin router with WPA2 security. I have never had any of these issues before when on iOS 5.1.1 and my other iDevices running iOS 5.1.1 have not had any issues either.

Apple - please please PLEASE give me back my iPad's perfect wifi connectivity with iOS 5.1.1! Will these issues be fixed with iOS 6.0.1? Please fast track it???

It goes without saying, but obviously, please also give me back Google maps...

Is anybody else experiencing these annoying issues? I feel like my iPad is only 50% the machine it should be!

Disappointed and frustrated...

Additional things to try.

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

I notice the problem of Wifi connect to Yes Huddle after I upgraded my new iPad (iPad3) to iOS. After turn on my Yes Huddle, my iPad browsing is extremely slow. I need to turn off and on my iPad again to connect to Yes Huddle.

However i do not have the said problem in connecting to YesZoom.

Same was experienced on my iPhone 3gs after I had upgrade iOS.

Oct 3, 2012 11:44 PM in response to Minmiester

I have the same problem with my new IPAD (wifi only) . It worked (!!!) fine with IOS5 and now after the upgrade I have problems with internet connection, with App Store (sometimes seems blocked at all) and with other apps that before worked fine.

I use the same internet key with a windows PC (two years old) and it works fine, so the problem is inside the IPAD.

I am very disappointed: this was a present for my wife and now she is desperate because can not more use it.

Please provide a patch to solve this issue ASAP.

Anyway I try to do:

Delete Iclousd account

Set the HTTP to AUTO

Switch off on WIFI.

Power off - on the IPAD.

Sometimes seems worked, but at the next start come back at the slow behaviour.

I would buy a new IPOD touch for my son but with this performance I am changing idea ......

Thanks for the response Texas Mac Man. None of these worked for me, I guess I'm stuck with incredibly frustrating wifi issues until iOS 6.0.1. Warning everybody I know to not upgrade to iOS 6 give how much of a painful disaster it is...

Interestingly, have just picked up my iPhone 5 obviously with iOS 6 and everything works fine on it, on both Wifi and LTE...so it's just the iPad 3 that's giving me issues (iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 also completely fine but running iOS 5.1.1).

Incredibly frustrating and has really damaged Apple's reputation I think and certainly my regard for them. The official response from Apple (i.e. almost deafening silence despite the number of issues people are having) is most disappointing...they could at least acknowledge there's a problem and are working on a fix!

This iPhone 5 may well be the last product I buy from them...

Oct 5, 2012 1:39 AM in response to tengts

Found any solutions? My iPad 3 has gotten worse, now it won't load either the App Store or the iTunes store at all - it was functioning only a week ago! It's also unable to load up any website hosted by Apple - i.e. not even the www.apple.com or the discussion forums / communities. Every other website is fine, WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON?

I've tried everything, reseting all network settings, erasing all content and reseting, restoring (twice), a full restore as a new iPad (twice), NOTHING works. I've checked Apple's recommended wifi settings, my router matches those recommendations EXACTLY. Apple please please PLEASE do something about this!

Again - I note that NONE of these connectivity issues occur when my iPad is tethered to any of my iPhones' (I have 3 of them right now!) 3G/LTE services! It's a wifi specific issue and the problem has only been since I "upgraded" (surely the very loosest possible way you could use that term ever!) to iOS 6!

Apple please FIX this or ALLOW ME TO UPGRADE BACK TO iOS 5.1.1!!!

FRUSTRATED

Oct 7, 2012 12:50 AM in response to Minmiester

OK, took the iPad 3 into the Genuis Bar at Chadstone, of course they couldn't help and are blaming it on my router that was PERFECTLY FINE on iOS 5 and is PERFECTLY FINE with every other device that's hooked up to it at home (2 x PCs, 2 x iPhone 4 iOS 5.1.1, an iPhone 4S iOS 5.1.1, an iPhone 5 iOS 6 and an AppleTV 2). Somehow, it's the router's fault and not a fault with either iOS 6 or my iPad!

Awful awful AWFUL experience when the company will not aknowledge a problem with their products and services...this is really damaging my experience with Apple.

Boy had I found this post earlier I would have never upgraded to ios 6. Nothing but problems. the following do not work, Facebook, AppStore, Netflix, my bank apps. anyweb site that requires me to log in.

I've tried all the stuff discussed on many sites including Apple's. NO GOOD. (you name it I've tried it ) Spend the last 22hrs. Today I did a complete restore. Apps store worked. Got a fresh Facebook APP. still can notlog in.

here is a screen shot of the iPad from the About Screen. It show WiFi connected in top of screen.

Show my Wifi network. but look at the righ column and see Network Not Avaiable, but I can surf the web in Safari

The saddest this is that there is no way to put 5.1.1 back on unless I jailbreak

To see Network you have to turn Cellular data on. Then network would show something like AT&T, Version, etc. depending on who your carrier is. You are surfing with Safari using WiFi not the cellular network.

Everything you mention works for me with iOS 6, Netflix, Facebook, App Store, etc. Somehow something has gotten hosed on your iPad. Take it to an Apple store, perhaps they can sort it out for you.

Oct 10, 2012 1:49 PM in response to Minmiester

Just to keep everyone posted, I took my iPad 3 into an Apple Genius Bar - works perfectly there so it's a problem with my router which I don't understand because I am using exactly Apple's recommended settings (WPA2, AES encryption). My router's firmware is up to date, so I guess I'm waiting for a NEW update or iOS 6.0.1 to fix this frustrating problem.

I've had iPhone 5 for a week now and first thoughts are: SHOCKING battery life. Won't go a day!

I'm pretty certain it's my last ever Apple product. This whole experience has destroyed my faith in the company...

Oct 11, 2012 7:19 AM in response to Minmiester

Hi, after upgrading to IOS6 I have been having the same problem with my Ipad 2 and Netgear MBRN3000.

Previously everything was working fine.

Now, none of the solutions above seem to work at home and obviously I don't have control of wifi configurations around the world. In any case my personal router's settings are fine and I am not willing to change them.

I have also tried resetting the device a number of times.

So finally this is not my problem or routers problem this problem is due to apple (notice the lower case a) and it's faulty, buggy, ****** IOS6 release.

PLEASE SOLVE THE PROBLEM ASAP AND POST AN UPDATE!!!!

Oct 16, 2012 11:18 PM in response to Minmiester

Having similar problems after updating to ios6 on my TP-LINK WR340G.

Works fine on my other router.

Can't access facbeook or the app store on iPad3

Only app store is unavailable on iPhone 4S - can access facebook but it is extremely slow.

Browsing is also near-standstill. Have had to use Opera browser to surf.

Hopefully apple releases an update soon - I doubt I will buy another ios product after this.

edit: interestingly Twitter works fine on both devices.
