Oct 28, 2012 6:22 AM in response to ksmolkaby ChristianMoehler,Perhaps this is a solution:
Please give it a try and activate the option "Hearing Aid Mode".
You can find it here:
"Settings" -> "General" -> "Accessibility" -> "Hearing Aids"
I couldn't test it yet, but I have read that activating the option "Hearing Aid Mode" should remove the curios feeling while having a call with the iPhone 5.
Perhaps this option deactivates the microphone at the backside of the iPhone5?

Jan 18, 2013 7:17 PM in response to ksmolkaby 1report,Are you really talking on the high way and driving a fast vehicle at the same time? That's the dangerous part right there.

Jan 28, 2013 12:16 PM in response to ksmolkaby JoeZ ,If this problem is really bothering you, just put a finger on the microphone located betwen the camera and the flash, that will block it from capturing the noise around you and thus reduce/eleminate that annoying feeling you are experiencing...
I wish I'm able to just plug something in it...

Some cars actually have passengers in them. Strange but true!

May 3, 2013 10:02 AM in response to ksmolkaby bbgrg,I noticed the same kind of weird sound on my iphone 5 earpiece this morning. Tried Google to figure out the problem but didn't find any specific solution. I stumbled around a little bit and figured out that volume was all the way up during a call. I lowered the volume to 50% while on call and looks like that fixed my issue for now but not sure if that's the permananet solution. I hope this might work for some users.

Oct 30, 2013 8:53 AM in response to ksmolkaby chcn,It appears this can now be turned off (in iOS 7). See under "Phone noise cancellation" in the manual: http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
It's under Settings > General > Accessibility.
It's never bothered me though.

Jun 22, 2014 12:35 AM in response to ksmolkaby Staffordvillan,Kudos Apple. It works fine. I first noticed it at my kids summer fete. Loads of noise as you'd expect but when I put my phone to my ear it was like the caller was next to me. Perfect.
You can turn it off to. 5s, great phone.
