Just bought Sony radio alarm/docking station and can't play music through it, it works fine on old systems and a logitech dock that my son owns, went to Sony Centre and they suggested updating software so I have installed IO6 which has made no difference

Thanks modular747, unfortunately my partners iphone3 plays ok on it and my sons ipod, Sony have me over a barrel because my phone is over 12 months old...... just and I need it for work so cannot spare the time without it to send it away, very frustrating the fact they want to charge so much money to actually talk to someone
I have cleaned the dock connector, alcoholic wipes and pin, looks crystal clear, done a factory reset, turned off bluetooth, I'm sure it's not the headphone connector either as music plays ok thru phone just doesnt come out of speakers on Sony docking station. I can pause and play the iphone screen from the dock and as I said iphone3 works ok on it, a little bit stumped now..................... But value your suggestion and anyone elses
ICF-DS15iP speaker dock/clock radio for ipod & iphone, bought yesterday from Sony store, guy in store said it would work when I did the software upgrade, been on other forums and connection on phone is spotless, wiped and even used the soft toothbrush, I guess a trip back to the Sony Centre, there is even an Apple store there too, so might try and plead my case with them as the phone is probably 2 weeks outside of warantee and the only issue is with the Sony docking station, everything else with the phone works fine!
I have the same problem with a simily Sony dock station. Now I guess the newer iphone (4, 4S) is not backwards compatible with older iphone (3G) and ipod.
Wondering if anyone has any insight ...? Does Apple have an app to make iphone 4+ work on old dock station ...?

I am having similar issues with my iPhone 4. I have accuired an sony RDP V20iP docking with speakers. After software upgrade, a while ago, I couldn't use my iPhone 4 to listen to music while plugged in. The Volume bar dissapears from the display. It charges, but the music from the speakers is very very low, almost unhearable. I have tried placing the docking in Service, there was no issue with it. Other iPhones are working with it. Mine doesn't. I have reinstalled the OS, reinstalled the application, tried everything. I don't have a clue what to do. Any advice from you guys, or Apple? I really like those speakers.

So you've proven it's not the phone and it's not the docking station. There is nothing left.
Most issues with docking stations are the result of lint/debris in the dock connector. Try cleaning it with a soft, dry brush.
I would think that if your phone plays through other docking systems, the problem is that the Sony is defective.
Clean the dock connector on your phone.
Then that points to either a faulty dock connector or an issue with the docking station.
Any issues with charging or with other devices that connect to the iPhone via the dock connector?
No as my phone works in other non Sony docks (logitech) and it charges ok when in the new Sony dock, partners phone plays ok and sons ipod plays ok in new dock, grrrrr frustrating
That simply points to the docking station as the issue.
Is it labels as "Made for iPod" or "Made for iPhone"?
I have the same problem with the same Sony docking station. Did you get a resolution?
Oh... and my iPhone works with other docking stations 🙂
