Re: ISO 6 and connection to Ford Fiesta Bluetooth -

My phone connects, but shows a blank phonebook. Ford tell me they don't even have a date for the software upgrade yet. If I reset back to v 5.1.1 will my phone connect? (I didn't have an iphone before)

iPhone 4S, iOS 6

Which Sync system are you using? First generation, or MyFord Touch?

I have the first gen system in my Lincoln, and the phonebook downloads fine. You should check your settings:

On the phone, go into Settings, Bluetooth and make sure Sync Contacts is ON.

On the car, go into Phone, Advanced, and make sure the Phonebook Sync is ON.

I made a couple of unfounded assumptions, sorry.

Does your car have Sync? Or is it just a standard bluetooth connection? I ask because the Sync system is much more capable and has many more features related to the Bluetooth than a standard system. I don't think Ford puts the MyFord Touch system on the Fiesta. And what year Fiesta is yours?

One thing I had to do after updating my iPhone 4S to iOS6, was to completely unpair and re-pair my phone. I did this because Apple added new Bluetooth protocols to iOS6. You may want to try this too. Delete the Bluetooth profile from the car AND the phone, then do a fresh pairing.

Aha - I see, mine is a 2010 Fiesta and think it just has a standard bluetooth connection (Bluetooth® Hands-Free Telephone and Voice Control System it says on the web).

I have tried the unpairing and re-pairing, it allows it to recognise the phone and connect (so I can dial a number through the stereo if I know it) but phonebook and call lists are blank.

What a palava, thanks so much for helping. Having braved buying a new car a couple of years back (most unlike me) and then braved an iphone, I never dreamt that my new purchases wouldn't want to talk to each other. 😊

Well, it seems like its the best it will do for now. I seem to recall some of the older systems like yours didn't download the phone book. On my 2012 with Sync and all the high tech toys (camera, GPS, etc.), it still doesn't copy over the recent call list, although I do get the phone book.

One other thing you might try is to ask your dealer if there is a software update for your Bluetooth system next time you are in for service.

Good luck with it.

Thought I'd best post the solution to my problem! Since buying my car new in 2010, I had no idea I needed to regularly check the various Ford websites for software updates. I found instructions how to do this (from Sept 2011) and after a bit of faffing about and 20 mins sat in my car in the rain, I think IT'S FIXED!! (finges crossed, but my phone book and call lists now all show properly).

For anyone like me - here is the Ford Bluetooth Software Update link - http://www.ford-mobile-connectivity.com/downloadsUpdates

It's REALLY important that you follow the instructions to the letter, I thought I would save the update to my memory stick in a folder, didn't notice your supposed to save it at the highest level of the memory stick, cost me an hour of messing about clueless.

Good luck if you're reading this, I'm now off to enjoy getting attached to my new iphone...
