AppleTv update causes Itunes and USB connection picture. What the heck does this mean?

Updating last night causes the Itunes image and USB cable to be displayed along with a rapidly flashing power light. All previous updates never caused this. What do I need to do?

Thanks in advance

Indeed. There are two options: bring your Apple TV to your local Apple store (best to schedule a visit in advance) and let them do it or get hold of a USB - micro USB cable ($15 at Radio Shack) and do it yourself. I bought the cable and did it myself. It's all fine now. Unplug the Apple TV from your TV set and from the power and connect it to your computer. Open iTunes. Select AppleTV device. Select restore. Note: it will erase prior data, so make sure you have your wifi network access info and your iTunes ID. Once you reconnect your AppleTV to your TV set, you will have to set all that up again.

Add me to the list of failed updates. Now I have to buy a cable I will probably never have another use for. I disagree that it was something on "my end" as the download completed and it was during the install that it went belly up and the Itunes/USB cable image displayed. Pretty obvious to me there's a clitch on Apple's end.

Apple will take care of it for free at an Apple store near you even if your AppleTV is out of warranty, since it is an Apple-recommended update that caused the freeze. But service at an Apple store can mean having to wait, which is why I preferred to buy the cable. No doubt you can get such a cable online for much less than $15. You'd have to wait for delivery, but it comes straight to your door. So there are a few options here for solving quickly and cheaply an annoying but truly minor problem.

Pretty thin. How can it be something on my end? Cable modem into Airport Extreme all wireless; never had a problem before this update. I run 6 apple TV boxes, so I should probably take the chance and update the other 5. Hmmm, let me think. Logic says same end results for each one. USB icon on screen. Waiting for an answer from apple. I'll post reply.

You guys are way too nice. A lot like the guy who last night sent me a message saying I was an idiot. Clearly he works for Apple. First he said open your eyes - there is a USB port... it is a mini USB port - so which one of us does nto have eyes. Only microsoft would build a device that would only hook into another apple device with a BLACKBERRY!!! cable... seriously - this is all the guys at apple support could suggest (or a cannon or some other manufacturer).. Of course all the cables I have here for apple phones and computers and ipads wont work.. and this guy who wrote me back said I was the idiot..

Stop being nice to Apple. You guys should be blasting them for such a stupid and idiotic mistake. You should not be making giving them a break for putting in a port for a cable THEY DO NOT EVEN SUPPORT... everyone of you would blast and laugh at microsoft for this... think about it...

Add me to the list, and a quick google search found hundreds of others having same issue. In my case I am stuck an hour's drive from nearest apple store or radio shack type place, with my brand new, purchased this week ATV ... which is at this point, dead and useless. Just another disappointment of many for this once incredibly loyal Apple customer. Will be taking it back to Apple Store for refund.
