    Regarding receiving text messages with an iPhone for Mercedes Benz it now works!!! A couple of things you need to know;

    1. Need a 3GS or newer,

    2. Need iOS 6,

    3. Pair iPhone to car,

    4. Go to settings on the phone, select Bluetooth, tap on the blue arrow beside the MB connection,

    5. Ensure 'notification' is on!

    Voila, it works instantly!!!

If your Benz can display text messages the TXT MSG on the telephone display will no longer be grayed out!

In my 13 GLK it can only display and/or read out a text but you can use SIRI to respond by voice if you have a 4s or 5.

    Hi,

I have a 2013 MB GLK and iphone 5, I did exactly the same the things as suggested but "no text message "was displayed. And I tried my wife's Blackberry, it worked and displayed all the text messages? Any idea why my iphone 5 is not working.

    Thx...

    chiuwsc,

I believe the COMAND center will only display new text messages as they come in and not ones that already exist on the phone. If a new text comes in while you're connected, you'll hear a beep through the car audio system and you should see an envelope icon on the top right of the COMAND screen.

To see the message, go back to Text Messages in COMAND it the new message should be listed there. To read it, select it. To listen to it, select it again.

Viewing or listening to the text does not remove it from the phone or mark it as read, from my experience.

    Hope this helps!

That is exactly correct and what I have noticed as well, it only shows new messages.

    Thanks for the prompt replies!

Well, I have no luck getting the NEW message. Iphone paired correctly, notification on, the TXT MSG not greyed out.

So don't know what's wrong. Kind of frustrated, any help would br appreciated.

I did have someone sent me a text message when the car and iphone were on. The new message showed up on my phone but not on the console. I clicked the TXT MSG, a window box displayed "no text message".

Turn your phone off then back on. Once you reconnect it should work fine when someone sends you a text message. If Text Message is not grayed out, then there shouldn't be a problem. If it still doesn't work, maybe your carrier blocks it somehow. I'm with AT&T.

I agree.  Restarting has wonder effects sometimes.

Thanks guys for all the tips.

Restarted and repeated the process a few times but still not working. Called the MB salesman and he said it's a known problem for iphone 5. iphone 4/4s seems to wok ok.

I'm in Toronto, Canada with Rogers. Anyone out there has the same problem?

I am with Rogers in Calgary and have no problems with iPhone 4, 4S or 5.  Not sure why yours does not work.

Personally, I would 'restore' your IOS 6 software to see if that fixes it.  : )

Thanks for all of the suggestions, but I still haven't gotten my iphone5 to recognize texting. My 2012 E550 doesn't have a blue button in the console to reset, and i've tried everyone's suggestions. I will visit the dealorship or maybe the apple store.

Hi, the blue button is on the iPhone.

Go to settings, select Bluetooth, you will MB connection, tap on the Blue Button on the right side to see another menu which gives you the option to 'show notifications'.  Make sure that is set to on to make text messaging work on the car. The car does not need to be on you can do it right now. Try it out. Bruce.

Thanks!  It's now working.  I didn't realize you meant blue button on the phone.  Bruce, you're the man!
