Great timing, Chris; you won 🙂
Oh well, just depends on how fast we type.
Thanks guys I really appreciate it. I've restored it 3 times now and nothing has changed 😟 And I cant get through to apple! AHH!
If you restored and set up as a new phone and WiFi is still greyed out you probably have a hardware failure of the WiFi chip. As you have a 4S it should still be in warranty, so Apple will replace it.
Thanks, I managed to get through to Apple in the end and they've said they will replace it tomorrow 🙂
It's either incompatible wireless drivers delivered in the software update, or your wireless chips are fried, on the iPad it is the wireless chips are fried and need replacing, this problem will cause both the Wifi and Bluetooth to be greyed out and not allow you to switch on the buttons.
Put it simply the device is not being fully reconized by the operating system.
Factory restore will not get them to work wasting your time!
Nothing to do with the Router!
Hack and fix for a living......................
I had the same problem and what did the trick for me was to remove my sim and restart the phone without the sim. Wifi was back and not greyed out any more. Put the sim back without switching the phone off
Must just be you. This didn't change a thing for me.
This happened to me straight after performing a backup of my phone.
This is what I did to resolve,
1: kill all apps that are running in the background
2: turn off phone for at least 5 mins
3: turn phone on
4: wifi is no longer greyed out and back to normal
Im also having this problem. I think a new update is needed to fix this?
I've tried all the above and it still greys out ! My Bluetooth works and this fully ***** !
Well, if BlueTooth works it is less likely to be a hardware problem, because they share the same chip. Have you tried Reset Network Settings? Have you tried a Restore and set up as a new phone?
Apple gave me a new phone since the problem was hardware. No questions asked as they tried to reset unsuccessfully and it was still under warrenty. Thanks everyone for all your help:)
