Q: calendar first and second alerts switch on their own

Hi, I've been having this problem for a while with my iPhone 4, wondering if anyone can help.

I've tried looking if there's already a thread for this issue, but couldn't find one -- maybe I'm just not using the correct keywords.

Every time I set my first and second alerts on my calendar appointment and saved them, they seem okay, but 2 minutes later when I go back to the same appointment, the first and second alerts switch on their own, e.g.: I set first alert to go on 2 hours before and second alert to go on 1 hour before the appointment. Save. When I return 2 minutes later, first alert turned to 1 hour before and second alert 2 hours before.

Which is silly, since who needs their second alert to be farther than their actual appointment? Even iphone knows this and cancels the second alert altogether. By the time I've been alerted, I only have an hour to get ready for my next appointment.

Anyone has encoutered this problem and has successfully solved them? I've tried setting my default time zone under setting to local, and even turning off iCloud, to no success.

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just got off the phone with a lovely customer service rep. We couldn't resolve the issue by changing settings on my phone. Next step is to do a restore, which I've set up for Friday 4/15/16. I need to try that before she can turn in a ticket to the engineering staff to make sure we've exhausted all options. Meanwhile, she is going to read this thread and perhaps direct others to read it as well. The issue can't be widespread because there are only 30 posts over the span of four years. But like all of you here, I had no problem setting up two alerts until getting my latest iPhone (6 plus).

I will post an update after we do the restore on Friday. Meanwhile, if you are reading this and having the same issue, you might considering phoning support also; the more reports we turn in the more attention this issue will receive.

According to the second rep, the earlier alert will go off before the later alert, regarless of what they are labeled when you set them. So I gave it a try and she was correct:

I sent a test event with the following settings.

    Alert: At time of event

    Second Alert: 15 minutes before

Of course what I originally "programmed" was my first alert for 15 minutes before and the second alert at the time of the event. But as we've discussed, these settings switched after I'd made them. But sure enough, I received an alert at 15 minutes before the event and another at the time of the event, just as I wanted.

If you look at saham's post of January 11, 2016, you'll basically see how the alerts appear on my phone but they go off in the correct order. It doesn't seem to matter how the alerts are labeled, the earliest setting goes off first then the second goes off.

Granted, it's still annoying to look at on the phone because of the incorrect labels, but at least I can set two alerts again and get them at the correct intervals.

    Hope this helps.

Calendar on iPhone duplicating or flipping alert times...

You can correct the problem by:

    1) applying the latest update (at time of this posting 9.3.1)

    2) going to "settings > mail, contacts, calendar > Default Alert Times" and changing the default for Birthdays, Events, and All-Day Events to something other than "None".

Keep in mind that any shared calendar (family share for instance) may display different alert times as alert times are a local setting in share.

I noticed this problem when I first used alert notification on calendar.  It is still a problem.  I have tried reversing the alert times.  However, this still does not work.  I have to set first alert, and indicate None for second alert.  I will have to wait for the first alert to remind me, and try setting a new time then.  I tried the fix that was recommended by Akmoist, for iPhone (changing default settings to something other than NONE).  This fix is not working on my iPad Pro.  What a pain in  the donkey!  Not good Apple.  May 12, 2016.

Thanks.  This has been driving me crazy!  Your 'test' worked like a charm and now I can just "let it go, let it go....."!

Hmmm?  I wonder if this is some Apple programmer's  Easter egg??

None of these fixes work for me. Very frustrating.

That lovely customer service rep is full of .... This IS an issue and it's an issue on every iPhone that I have owned and on all my friends iPhones! Just because ppl don't post here does not mean that most ppl don't have this issue.  Not everyone reads this forum and those that do do not necessarily write on here! Ive read this discussion on numerous occasions but it's super annoying to set up an account just to post on here - so many ppl don't have the time or take the time! What an idiotic statement to make about it not being a widespread issue because there's only 30 posts in 4 years! So if you're planning a vacation and the hotel has 30 Complaints of bedbugs and rats, you're going to book because it must not be a widespread problem?  How ridiculous!  The fact that 30 ppl took precious time out of their day to post on here says it IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM!  I have tried the suggestions on here and none of them work.  my contract with iPhone 5 is up now so I'm switching to non-apple now. SO MUCH FOR APPLE CARE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE!
