macbook update...

i have a late 2008 macbook, and it is currently running on 10.5.8, I called the apple store and purchased snow leopard 10.6.3, but i can't get it to install... it says "the application 'install mac os x' cannot be used from this volume." can anyone help?

Does it say "from" or "on" this volume? If on, then check this knowledge base article.
