IOS6 Safari autofill doesn't work

After updating my iPhone 4S to IOS6, my autofill function in Safari stopped working. It worked in IOS5. I've toggled the autofill on/off button. I've confirmed the contact card is proper and viable (and listed for use). I've tried a soft reset, a hard reset. I've toggled off documents & Data in iCloud, an toggled it back on.

NOTHING.

Any suggestions?

I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 6 and AutoFill in Safari is completely non-functional now. I get no prompts to save the first time I login to a site. Hitting the AutoFill button on the virtual keyboard = nothing. The "Clear All" and "Use Contact Info" and "Names & Passwords" ON/OFF toggles in Settings>Safari>AutoFill appear to do nothing whatsoever.

I spent 3+ hours on my own trying every trick I came across or could think of on my own. No combination of Private Browsing on or off, Pop Up Blocker on or off, clearing Safari's History and Data caches, turning both AutoFill options on or off, clearing the AutoFill, and doing every imaginable combination of rebooting the phone in between Settings changes would get the prompt for AutoFill to save login and password data to pop up.

So I called Apple and they stepped me through a simple phone Reset which solved nothing and then a not so simple complete restore and setting it up from scratch as a new phone. All that did was waste half of my Saturday.

This is a bug and a nasty one at that. The Apple support guys on the phone answered my question of is this a widespread problem with a no. But I'm not so sure. This sounds endemic to iOS 6. My guess is some line of code flagging AutoFill to prompt to save is buggered real good.

Ah, thank you, Jim ... I was doing this from my computer; not my iPhone. I'll see if that works.

It worked! Thanks so much. I guess I'm a little bitter about other Apple issues that have remained unresolved involving bugs they're ignorning. After 30 years working with computers, there seems to be a lot of sloppy programmers and unresponsive support.

There are two AutoFill options under Settings>Safari>AutoFill. One is Use Contact Info and the other is Names & Passwords. I have tried every combination of having one or the other or both on and have never solved this problem. Nothing has restored the prompt to save AutoFill information when logging onto a site for the first time and there is no stored information to recall next time. I checked Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>My Info. It is correct and I do not see how it is responsible for the lack of the "Save" prompt even if it had an error.

Jim, to put it plainly, your "fix" is the same thing Apple telephone tech support tried and it did not solve the problem now, just like it did not solve the problem more than two months ago. It is after the failure of trying all manner of AutoFill settings as well as Private Browsing, clearing AutoFill (under the Names & Passwords toggle in Settings) and clearing Safari's History and Cookies and Data as well as many, many phone reboots that the what I believe what I was told on the phone by Apple tech support is true. That AutoFill in Safari has been disabled. So if there is misinformation about this issue, it is coming from Apple and it is supported by everyone who has tried "fixes" and still gets no prompt to save AutoFill data and therefore no AutoFill data to recall and spare the user retyping login info every time they log into a website that requires it.

If this issue is really a problem with user settings, then it is fixable and there would be iOS 6 iPhone users out there who can succesfully get a prompt to save login information the first time they visit a new website that requires login information typed via the virtual keyboard. Those of us who have not gotten this resolved would then need to know the exact settings, every one under every relevant heading, so we have a workable solution that we can apply to our iOS devices. I am just not convinced yet that we are all talking about the same problem or that the problem I am talking about has a working solution.

I was having this problem as well... This evening I resolved the issue by turning the autofill and save passwords options to off position. I then cleared all caches etc. then I backed up my iPad (retina with iOS 6) on pc. Then I drained battery until iPad shut off. Then I charged for a bit so I would have enough power for a restore. Then through iTunes I did a factory restore, once completed I opened iPad and followed all prompts until it asked if I wanted to use as new iPad or restore from back, I selected restore from backup. I was then asked to plug into iTunes, I did. I then restored from backup and went to settings>safari and turned on autofill and save passwords. I also made sure it was my contact card for the autofill. I then proceeded to go to my (non-banking) web pages that I frequent, logged in by typing username & password and I used the "go" button on virtual keyboard (not the login button on web page) to enter the site, and I was prompted to save my pw & info ... It worked fine. To test the autofill I went to Nike.com and started to create a new account. After typing first letter or two of my first name it finished spelling my name, I clicked next and it filled out the whole form for me as it was supposed to.... I hope this helps !
