Q: recovery system for mac

I am trying to do the recovery for the system on my mac air 11', but the Command+R does not work at all, anyone could help me with this?

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Your sig here says you're running 10.6.8. - is that true? Or which OS X version is yours?
