I bought a Macbook pro 15" last week.

I bought a new Macbook Pro 15" last week... Upgrading from a macbook 13".. Loving it, But... I have an external hard drive that contains all my music and movies as not to overload my macbook Pro's hd.. But is can no longer access the external hd. it could access it for a few days and now nothing.. I really don't want to reformatt my exteral hd... Someone please help me..

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Do you see your HDD in the Finder sidebar? You can also check Disk Utility (located in Applications> Utilities folder). If you see the HDD greyed out it means that it has failed and it needs to be replaced. You can also check if your USB cable is in good condition. I had an issue where one of my external HDDs did not showed on my Mac and PC, the issue ended being a damaged USB cable.
