I downloaded a movie from iTunes it took up 5GB is this normal. How many movies can you store on iPad 16GB

For an HD movie, sure. It still seems pretty high though. Do the math: ~14.3GB - 5GB, so 2 5GB movies, and anything goes from there. You could fit many movies on there with compression (and obviously a huge loss in quality)

HD Movies purchased on the computer will download both the HD version, and a SD version.
5GB seems resonable for the movie.
Yes it's normal if the movie is that large of a download. The Titanic is an 8GB download. It just depends on how long the movie is and if it is in Hi Def.
