I have been having low volume problems listening to music with the iPhone 5. The earphones I've been using are from my old iPhone 3GS or an iPod. I just assumed it shouldn't be a problem. Apple as apple right?

Now I went back to the Apple iPhone 5 EarPods and the problem is no longer there. When I switch back and forth there is a big difference in output. WIth the old earphones I use full volume but feel I am missing 25%. With the iPhone 5 EarPods I have to adjust the volume down a bit or it's too loud.

Im in hong kong and i visited the apple store... The volume limits are much higher so its def an applied limit as opposed to a hardware one...

"Settings->Music->Volume limit-> set it the max so you will see that volume limits is off"

This worked for my slightly deaf mother on an iPad with Bose headphones. Before: Max volume was way too quiet. Now: Acceptable volume is less than Max. Note that this also turns off the volume limit on Podcasts, and other applications (which is what she wanted).

    Thanks!

Ipad has no problem from the beginning, but the problem that we are all suffering here is in the iphone 5

And we all tried what u suggested but it didn't work

The problem is iphone 5 music sound on the max on any headphones is about 20% lower than any other idevice.

Not sure why this is still being discussed. It was solved on page 7! You just need to change the volume of the songs on in your iTunes and re synch them back to your iPhone 5!

    This is not sollution.

First, we listen music from others sources, especially from Youtube

Second, we dont want use another device like PC to edit songs, we want simply download music from ItunesApp and listen.

boosted volume using itunes on mac, resynced the entire library. marginal increase. still not as good as the playback on my ipod nano 6g/ ipad 2 with the original track without boosted volume. i think that makes everything clear.

as i explained earlier.... its a conintually degrading experience with apple...

I agree, audio quality seems less important to apple now..I was using iCloud but now i need to adjust the volume i cant.

Maybe time to move on, the HTC one AQ is pretty impressive even with beats off.t

The problem can be fixed by going to Settings/General/Music and remove the Volume limit.

Talked to Apple last week and they had no idea on what to do.

    Hope this helps

Iris, I dont mean to be harsh but do you really think that in a topic of 121 replies no-one would have thought of that????

This is an issue with the design of the phone (most likely a hard coded volume limit) which cannot be solved by any of the settings, believe me they have all been tried.

This is APPLEs problem and they need to resolve it or risk losing vast numbers of their loyal supporters (of which I am one)

Sorry, but this solved my problem.  The ear bud worked just fine when I got the phone in Dec 2012.

It stopped working well after the first software update.

When I put the volume control off yesterday, the ear bud are back working just fine with ehough volume to damage my ears.

I posted this soultion just in case it would help others, obviously, it does not work for you.

  • Enzuigiri Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Ok well i think you are talking about an issue related to that setting and I am glad you have resolved it.  The issue that we are experiencing is that with all limiters switched off, the volume level is significantly lower than that of the 4s or 4 - which is obviously a problem in a phone that is considered an upgrade

I am having the same problem, I brought Iphone 4s 10 momth before and it had a battrey problem so Apple store guys chaged the phone but with new phone the volume through head phone is so less. I use my phone to connect through headphone jack as aux, with my previous Iphone 4s i use to put music at 24 on car sterio but with new iphone4s i have to put it at 31-34 to get the same effect. I tried it with Ipod touch 4th generation and it was workgin fine, at volume 24 i was getting the same effect as my old iphone 4s. I went to the apple store the guy replaced the phone again but the problem is still the same. Just to do an experiment i took my freind Iphone4s who had been using it for more than an year and to my surprize the volume in my car sterio was excellent at level 24. No I am confused how to explain this to Apple guys.
