Add me to the list.  In some respects I am relieved as I thought I might be going deaf !

I dont think at this stage that it is a hardware issue since I cannot see why Apple would downgrade their audio when upgrading a phone (it is music device at heart after all).

Considering there is an electronic volume limiter on the device I am thinking that, as a precaution with the new in ear pods, that they have dropped the output electronically.

I hope they sort it soon as my Sennheiser 25's are seriously missing the boost!

I had the same problem with my Bose in ear headset.

Unboxed and connected the new iPhone 5 headset - problem solved, thank goodness!!

Looks like iPhone5 doesn't like certain headphone connectors!!!!

You're absolutely right - I tried my Sennheiser's and guess what... PERFECTION.

What the **** is going on then? I mean... this is madness. Worst design ever - You think it's something to do with Apple only wanting people to use their earphones? haha

So ur saying u used ur Bose headphones and then used ur apple headphones and it solved the volume issue?

  • Enzuigiri Level 1 (0 points)

Oops think my comment about the Sennheisers might have confused things.

My issue is that the volume of my music has dropped with the iPhone 5.  Is no different with the in ear headphones - also interestingly it is ONLY the music as if I then switch to fifa 13, the commentary nearly bursts my ear drums ..suspect a software update might be required to balance things out.

Yea that's true. When I play clash of clans the volume is very loud..just fix it apple..taking bare long to respond as well

Ladies and Gents can we try and keep this discussion firmly rooted around the facts so far, Apple don’t need mixed signals here!

THE FACTS – (for any iPhone 5 owner regardless of model or where purchased)

. Volume output on any type of headphones (inc apples ear pods) is reduced significantly compared to previous iPhones 3gs/4/4s

. Doesn’t matter what the source or app is either it’s a lower output regardless

. Exchanged phone in apple store for direct replacement and has the same issue, other people I know have the same issue..

. Same issues with any iPhone 5’s white/black any Gigabyte version

. Adaptor is standard and it has nothing to do with this? It accepts any 3.5mm jack end of so it’s not that

. IOS6 installed on 4/4s why is the output volume still ok on these, worrying if people think a patch will fix it (i hope im wrong..)

. The sound quality is not as good -  clarity/warmth etc.. as previous iPhones 3gs/4/4s (points to hardware again)

I am starting to be concerned that my thoughts on this are more hardware related and indeed if a new audio chip was used to save weight or amplifier chip maybe,  I think apple may be in for some recalls or a fast re think redesign?

On another note I’m not prepared to buy an external mobile headphone amp to cart around to resolve this, as one user said this is and expensive bit of kit we have shelled out for!

Apple this is really not acceptable, as other users mention on here PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS!

Sure it 'accepts' any 3.5mm jack but is inconsistent on 'connectivity' depending on make of headset...

    See Mo_Jiwa's comment.

CoopUK, Apologies i just dont want this turning away from the volume issue as that sounds more like a seperate isssue to what we are talking about but obviously needs to be addressed also at some stage.

well said Leftbelow!! for me it is also strange that i have not seen any articles in the tecnique-magazines concerning this MAJOR issue of the Iphone 5. certainly not in the Swedish ones. i mean, this is a gigantic setback in terms of quality on the new iphone 5. have anyone seen any articles professionally adressing this problem?

  • gmtosto Level 1 (0 points)

Hi guys...I've the same problem with my iPhone 5 64gb buyed here in Italy!!! The output sound compared with the previous models is very low and less powerfull! I really hope it's a softwere problem! I had my first replacement because of other issues and the volume was even lower there. That's disappointing!

  • Ryu81 Level 1 (0 points)

Same problem here.. i completely agree with

Hope Apple will fix this soon!
