I updated iPhoto on my iPad (new version) and when I try to import pictures from my Nikon D800 (even jpeg only) the images get an '!' and will not transfer. They import quite happily to my MacBook Pro (iPhoto) but will not transfer to the iPad either. I suspect this is a software glitch since they transferred easily enough before the update, even when originals are in RAW format on the camera. Any ideas?

If you've upgraded your iPad to iOS 6 you'll probably need to update iPhoto '11 on your Mac to the current version 9.4.1 to synchronize pictures. Apple released iPhoto 9.4 and then 9.4.1 to resolve some issues while using iTunes to sync pictures to iOS 6 devices.
As for downloading pictures directly to the iPad, you probably should post your question in the Using iPad forum. This is the iPhoto for iOS forum and iPhoto doesn't support importing pictures directly (it's actually a bit confusing since Apple's "Photos.app" is used on the iPad to download pictures with the Camera Connection Kit).

I had the same problem with the iPad connection kit (SD card or USB), until I discovered that the big images from the D800 have to be transferred ONE AT A TIME. Problem solved for now; it's just a bit clumsy.
