why do i get disk read errors on ntfs drives

everytime i am copying large video files it screws up telling me there are errors on the disk ..... however if i copy to my PC laptop it all works fine


usually -36 error

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), external hard disk

NTFS is a Windows format. You must be using this over a network or using some software to interface, and it would help to know more about that. Likely whatever is handling the file transfer cannot handle large files. If you were using FAT format then you'd be up against file size limits in that format.
