I had this problem today with no icon for airplay on my iphone also I had no airplay icon on my macbook.

I switched off my router and left the power off for about 30 sec to a minute, switched it back on after a reboot everything worked.

So if I buy Mountain Lion, will airplay work? I don't want to spend the $20 if not! lol

Try turning off bluetooth on the device youre trying to play from

If you are still having trouble try going to your router and disable multicast streaming and save, then re enable multicast streaming and save.

Then re-start iTunes, this worked for me.

its the router, restart it problem solved,  but....

surely the £6000 apple "robbed" from me can go towards fixing a simple thing such as this???

everything else in my home network works fine without having to restart my router???

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Hey Asgard, I had the same problem, try this:

1. Open your network preferences

2. Select WiFI and the "Advanced" button

3. Select the WiFi your apple tv or mac is connected to

4. Go to the TCP/IP tab and on the CONFIGURE iPv6 tab selec Automatically

5. Click OK and then Apply

If needed, restart your computer but it was automatic for me.
