I need to finally upgrade my OS from 10.4.11
I want to make sure what ever I upgrade to that
FCP will still work.
Do I just jump up to 10.5 Leopard or
can I jump all the way to Mountain Lion
without any significant problems.
I have 2 programs to finish but just want to
make sure I don't rum into problems after the upgrade.

What version of FCP? Because installing FCP 6 and earlier is problematic on Lion, and impossible on Mountain Lion. If you have an older version of FCP...5, 5.1, 6...you need to stick with the older OS. Don't mess with a working system. That's a tool you rely on to make money...if it's working, leave it alone.

Yeah, I'd stop at Snow Leopard.
And if you want to make sure it works right...clone your hard drive (carbon copy cloner)...clone your good, working system just in case anything goes wrong. Then reformat the drive, install the OS fresh, from scratch, then the apps, fresh, from scratch.

1) carbon copy cloner-is this a program to download?
2) Do I transfer everything on my HD to an XHD before
reformatting?

That's exactly what CCC does.
You can also use the "Restore" function in Disk Utility to do the same thing.
Upgrading 10.4 to ? so FCP still works
