volume control.

everytime i connect my headphones the music at a point stops on its own, i have tried restoring the ipod but it is still doing the same thing. is there anything i can do? i have to have the ipod on a flat surface without moving so it can play music. i have tried different pair of headsets but like i said before i must keep it on a flat surface for it to continue working properly.
