Yes, the iPhone 5 scratches, so be careful with it. I know that you are describing the sides of the iPhone 5 (mid frame), but technically the iPhone 5 does not have a true mid-frame like the iPhone 4 and 4S. The iPhone 5 has a back case only, (which has sides) and then obviously the Front Screen Assembly.
