itune dj shuffle not skipping selected tracks

itunes dj is not skipping selected songs during shuffle. I have checked and double checked that the "skip when shuffling" option is selected. However, these songs still play on my itunes dj, iphone 4 shuffle, and ipad 3 shuffle. This feature has worked for me earlier and is no longer working with recent updates. Does anyone have any suggestions for a work around?
