Just a quick one, im am looking to upgrade the ram in my imac 21.5 (mid 2010) to double it to 8g, what is the best aproach,
I currently have the standard issue 2 x 2g cards,
am i best simply adding another 2 x 2g in the two empty slots cards to total 8g.
or
Stripping everything out and just using 2 x 4g cards leaving two empty.

Or put in 4 x 4GB and be smoking with 16GB ... Crucial or OWC both are great vendors with good prices with a 3 year gaurantee on their RAM
Add to what you have and bring it up to either 8 or 12GB.

Cheers both options had crossed my mind, the only thing I had thought by using my existing and going to 12 was if there would be any compatibility issues or little glitches if I were to combine a number of different ram cards ie if I had 2g 2g 4g 4g arrangement. The 16g does sound really tempting mind but as with everything it's a matter ultimately of money.
2 x 2 GB plus 2 x 4 GB would be fine= 12 GB.

Lots of folks here are running 12GB and is not a problem, as long as you buy quality RAM and stick to the spec's for your model.
