Just stop using it.

All the music purchased will always be tied to that account, one of the reason you do not want to delete your account.

Your computers will have to be authorized fro that account.

Read closely the paragraphs starting with the words "Deletion requests..."

I have read the above referenced page from top to bottom.  This page does not address the issue of how to delete an iTunes account.

I reiterate Phoneman21's original question:

"How do I close and delete my iTunes account?"

Only iTunes Support can potentially delete an account (which would also delete its purchases), you would have to contact them and see if they can/will delete it : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ww
