    Today with a clear mind, I saw that my assumption that the problem is on the certificate revocation check is wrong.


    The main volume of the traffic was from, not thawte or other certificate authority.


    The problem is on the traffic between iOS 6 and google in general but It's impossible to check it because it's encrypted.

    This whole thing is ridiculous. We pay for data. It is Apple responsibility to make quality products that do not have data leaks, or use our data to communicate with their servers to help their business. If they want to use 3 or more MB a day of my data then they can subsidize my AT&T bill. I think the iphone5 is my last apple product. I'm tired of this.

    do you realise that if every manufacturer and carrier thought in this way, we'll end up with a scenario where customers get excellent products and services and low cost  - and thats prohibited!

    I've personally been as to solve my data usage problems. I have an iPhone 5 runnin iOS 6.0.1. I've been having extremely high data usage (wifi and cellular). I first connected my phone to Xcode to get a look at the console logs. There wasn't much of interest. Next, I reset the network settings, which didn't appear to help much. Finally, I "Reset all settings". Since doing this my data usage has been 1/100 or less than what it was. I've been using a data monitoring app to closely monitor cellular and Wi-Fi did usage. Since doing this I've gone from using several gigabytes Wi-Fi data each day to lessen a few hundred megabytes. My cellular data usage has gone from three or 400 MB a day down to a few MB's. Because the solution is quite easy to implement I suggest anyone having these issues try this before resorting to any more intense measures. I had initially restored my new iPhone five from an iCloud backup of my iPhone 4. With that it came preferences and .plist files from my old phone. I'm assuming the resetting of all settings effectively erases most of the preference files in the iPhone. In my case it appears a corrupt preference file or something simply incompatible with iOS 6 was causing the problem and has been deleted.

    Lucky. I started by a fresh re install of everything from the cloud but that did not do anything. I have not experienced nearly the same degree of problem. I am using about 120 MG per month doing nothing or very little. But still that should not be. I remain in contact with some Apple trying to pin point the problem. I got rid of all Google on my phone, no change, I have turned off notifications, no change. On to the next idea!!

    i have similar issues on iPad2 with iOS6 (i did upgrade to 6.0.1 yesterday) .. my data usage clocked 1.8GB in 4hours!!


    All i did was click on update for my purchased apps.. like keynote, filepro etc. Which is MBs. However, after 3 or 4 hours of wifi usage, i find that those apps are still "Loading" with progress bar showing some movement on the iPad, but the overall usage clocked almost 1GB!!.


    I have deleted iCloud account and am monitoring the usage closely now.. i have also downloaded the data usage monitoring tool to keep track of the same.. i dont know if iCloud sync is the problem. .

    I deleted my iphone iCloud account last night and it made no (or very little) difference, unfortunately.  This afternoon I went to the Genius Bar and they suggested resetting to factory settings.  We did that, but as soon as I left the store (within minutes) I had already used 15MB data.

    you need to restore ideally...  and once you've done that, leave the phone on wifi with mobile data off for a couple of hours so all your mail accounts etc get synced on wifi

    I had icloud still on my iphone 5 and was seeing 1-2 kb per second


    I deleted icloud and saw more than 50 kb per second.


    any ideas?


    just gonna turn of data till its fixed!!

    Ok, I have an iPhone 4 with iOS6.0.1, mobile data plan of 1GB used up, E10 on cellular data overage.


    I have also just deleted the iCloud account (every sync option was set to off, and has never been on), and now cellular data usage is even higher!! I'm connected to Wifi, the router is 1meter away, full signal. This is getting truly ridiculous.


    I have turned off cellular data for the moment. Apple has to acknowledge the problem, and fix this asap! Good to see that it's getting picked up by various sites, e.g. Slashdot. Many iOS6 users are in for a nasty surprise when they get their phone bill this month....

    I had the exact same issue.  iOS 6.01, battery was losing over 10% per hour and high cellular use even when wifi was on. I tried many of the suggestions that others had including diabling iCloud - it didn't change anything.  However, I deleted my work Exchange email account and now the problem is gone.  I suspect that its still a bug in iOS that is causing this.  I'm going to try adding the account back in but disabling push email and see if the problem comes back.

    Apple have at last admitted there is a problem with iCloud. From an email I received today:


    "Hello Thomas,


    Regarding your recent visit to the Apple Store Buchanan Street when we escalated your iPhone/iCloud 3G data use issue, we have received a reply from our escalation team who have provided some further information for you.


    It has been confirmed that iCloud under iOS6 does indeed use more data than iOS5, but without some further interaction with yourself, they cannot confirm if the rise in data usage your are experiencing is within normal expectations. The escalation team have advised that they no longer deal with iCloud issues, and that the iCloud team will deal with this directly (via our Express Lane on the Apple website).

    They have therefor suggested that the best way for you to continue investigating this issue would be to use the following link to Express Lane to escalate your issue to the iCloud support team"


    I'm waiting for a call from their support team. Fingers crossed.

    Apple are going to replace the phone.

    If that doesn't work they have suggested contacting the carrier (EE) to find a resolution, although they didn't know anything about the problem when I spoke to them a few weeks ago.

    I don't think you'll have much luck with EE... every time I spoke with EE/Orange they tried to blame the phone, one of them also said I should ask for the phone to be replaced... when I said that to the Apple genius he laughed and I do agree with him... it can't be a hardware problem ...

    I had the same problems with my ios 6.0.1 since upgrading from 5. Same as described by everyone.


    I have disabled / deleted the icloud and now there is no data usage and no extra charges from my carrier.


    If apple does not fix this, then my next phone will be an Android.
