Q: Imac g5 start up issue

my imac g5 has a gray folder on startup, when i put in the mac os x disk it stays with a blank screen for about 2 minutes and then powers down. i've tried to safe boot and also followed the guide to checking the logic board still no luck. any suggestionsons would be greatly appreciated. i am wondering if maybe i have a bad ram chip or did the harddrive go.

First guess would be the Hard Drive, wht shows up if you hold alt key at bootup?

Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...

/sbin/fsck -fy

Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.

(Space between fsck AND -fy important).

Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...
