It could be that your equipment doesn't meet the requirements:
AirPlay Mirroring
Requires a second-generation Apple TV or later. Supports the following Mac models:
What Lanny says is correct. If you do have proper equipment, try this:
Go to System Preferences (in the Apple menu). Click Displays, then the Display tab on top. Make sure "Show mirroring options in the menu bar" is checked.
I have apple latest apple TV, updated software. I have mountain lion on my air laptop. Im trying to get the mirroring to work. the airplay is working fine from itunes, for all devices, ipad, iphone, etc. but the airplay icon is not showing up on menu bar on my air, as was indicated to begin mirroring. hope i am being clear. Thanks for the help!
Click on the Apple Menu and select, "About This Mac." Then click the "More Info" button and verify whether your Mac is compatible. If by, "air laptop," you mean that you have a MacBook Air, it must be a Mid 2011 or newer.
its late 2010, i guess thats why. thx
There is a 3rd party app that will give you that capability, but it's not free: http://airparrot.com/
