Q: Can I use 4 x 8GB DDR3 SDRAM in my late 2010 iMac?

I want to try and improve the performace of my late 2010 iMac by increasing the RAM. I am rumming 4GB at present with 2 empty slots. Ideally I would run 32GB BUT the apple website says each slot can take 4GB max. Can I use 8GB in each slot? Is there any point or will 16GB be just as fast? Cheers SB

According to the excellent online vendor, OWC, you could use 4 x 8 GB RAM modules in that Late 2010 iMac model.  However, that would probably be overkill for most even advanced Users.  16 GB will handle most video editting, Photoshop, and other high demands quite nicely.  You might check your Activity Monitor's memory useage reading whe you iMac is under what you consider a heavy load, and see how many GB's you're actually using and how many pageouts to the hard drive you're getting.

    Hope this helps
