iPhone 5, iOS 6 and 2010 Lexus USB connection?

Hey there all,

As have many, I'm sure, I recently upgraded from an iPhone 4S (iOS 6) to an iPhone 5. I have a Lexus RX450h (2010), and I like to connect my phone to the car via the car's USB port to listen to music.

I could accomplish this with a few hitches using the 4S; sometimes, the car would say it couldn't read the USB device. I would unplug the phone, plug it back in, and usually it would work. The problem was intermittent so I assumed I'd never find a fix and happened seldom enough it wasn't too annoying.

Enter the iPhone 5. The first time I plugged it into the USB port in the car, all went great. The next time, the phone never seemed to see the connection (eg the battery never flipped to charge mode, nor did a little plug symbol show up on the battery icon). I unplugged/replugged it, from both the Lightning and USB ends, to no avail. On a whim, I turned the car on/off, and voilà, there's the connection.

I now have very intermittent connectivity between my phone and the car. I guess that I am assuming it is a firmware (or something) issue on the Lexus side since "rebooting" the car can fix the problem. Also, if I plug my phone into the car before I turn the car on, it usually works. Emphasis on usually.

Any thoughts on fixes? I was unable to come up with responses when I searched these forums. I found a couple of Lexus support forums but the only postings about iPhone 5 were from people with newer cars than mine. OMG, maybe I need to buy a new car to go with my phone!

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Stuart

These issues occur often with many vehicle manufacturers,

head units, and phones (not just iPhones). As in vehicle

devices rarely or maybe never get updates, sometimes

just a small change is a phone can cause issues. The

Microsloth based head units are notorious for this.

Since you own a quality car, I would get on the phone

with Lexus or or your dealer and see if there are any updates.

Although in these situations, you usually end up with finger

pointing. At least notifying Lexus the problem exists may get

a resolution eventually.

BTW, the cable does work when syncing to computer

doesn't it? Or do you do wireless syncing and backup?

May be a cable issue?
