Symbol I've never seen before
iPhone 4S, iOS 6
Thanks. But how did it popped out? It wasn't there before and I did not activate Airplay through iTunes or whatsoever.
Have you recently bought an AppleTV or other AirPlay enabled device. If your iPhone has detected it, it will just be allowing you to use AirPlay by pressing the button. If you don't to use AirPlay, don't press it!
Apparently no. It just pop out out of nowhere. It's weird though. No AppleTV or Airplay devices were connected to my phone.
It may not be equipment you own, it could be a neighbours. The symbol just means you are in range of an AirPlay device, not that you are connected.
Ohhhh. But doesn't it requires bluetooth to be on to detect it? It's switched off.
I had this issue too. If you have items like TiVo with a recent update, a new Bose wireless dock, or your neighbors have any of this, those devices will send out a signal and your phone will recognize it. Even if your blutooth is off. Before iOS6 I know there was a way to turn off airplay. that option may still be there.
AirPlay does not use Bloothtooth. The iPhone and the AirPlay enabled device should be on the same network though. Are you using Wi-Fi? What else is connected to the same network (either by Wi-Fi or hard-wired)?

That is incorrect. I have the Bose dock and TiVo... both use the AirPlay icon for a Blutooth connection. WiFi ahs nothing to do with it unless your trying to connect to something ON the network.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/airplay/ - AirPlay does not use bluetooth - "AirPlay works over Wi-Fi or Ethernet or a combination of both"
Nope i have non of those. I've tried searching to turn off Airplay but no luck. I did a 'reset all settings' and it worked for me. It's no longer there.
I have two laptops connected via Wi-Fi. But there's nothing related to Airplay in my laptops nor I've downloaded anything about Airplay. What I do have is just iTunes and iClouds.
It will probably re-appear when it comes back in range of whatever was triggering it initially. You can't switch AirPlay as such - the icon just shows it is available, not that it is connected.
Thank you. I guess nothing can be done then as long it doesn't harm my phone or affects my battery. 🙂
