how do I turn my finder search back on?

Hi,

I've disabled my spotlight to enable a backup process to time machine, and cannot now seem to get either my finder or spotlight working again, despite trying the obvious launch commands through the terminal--any full proof methods of getting the spotlight/finder/indexing service started again?
