Ad hoc vs Enterprise distribution

Hi,

If I want create a in house iphon/ipad app and distribute it to employees of my company.(about 50 people) can I use the Ad hoc method or do I have to use the Enterprise method?

If I'm using Ad hoc option do I have to know the device ids of all the devices which this is going to be deployed?
