Can you convert a song in itunes to mp3 format for mp3 players?

I bought my daughter an mp3 player for her birthday, I feel she is too young for an ipod, but we have itune accounts for all our music because my older children both have iphones and ipods. Can I convert the itunes songs I already purchased which is a great deal, into mp3 format for my daughters mp3 player? If so, could you please explain step by step instructions? Thank you.

Which MP3 player does she have? It may already play AAC files.

  1. To convert a song...
  2. iTunes prefs General - Import settings.
  3. Set it to MP3.
  4. Select the song(s) in iTunes, right click > Create MP3 version.

Note that this will create a new mp3 file. The original will remain unchanged.

Don't forget to change Import settings back to AAC (or whatever they were).
