Messaging via phone # on iPad?

Hi

I just got a new ipad and set up messaging. I enetered my apple ID and it pulled in my email, but not my phone #. I would like my texting to go through the phone #, not my email. I can't manualy add the # either.

I know this should work since the guy next to me has the same device and he texts via his phone #.

I checked my itunes account and my phone number is there.

Any ideas why it won't bring in the phone #, or let me add it?

Best

John

What you need to do it go to your settings on your iPhone, go to messages, click on send & receive then once you are there you should be able to "use apple ID for messages." Let it load for a bit then go to your ipad, sign out, sign back in, then it should be there. If not, just keep trying to sign in and out.

I saw these posts because I was trying to figure it out myself and I did. Hope this helps!

Go to settings and select messages. There should be an to allow people to text you through you iphone phone number. There is an option in facetime in the settings to call peolpe by your phone number. Messages on the ipad and ipod only can text to other apple devices(istuff and some macs). Same with facetime. If your phone is not an iphone, this may be the problem. You don't have to buy one. I am sorry if this is the problem.

I can't help you with the iPhone # situation because I don't have an iPhone but I do have an iPad 3 and I downloaded Pinger app which allows me to text to my sister's iPhone. Since I don't have a smart phone and am not much of a texter, I pay $.20 per text but by using Pinger, I don't pay to send or receive a text. Maybe that may be an easier way if you don't get it figured out regarding the above posts.
