When I try to burn a CD with itunes it says "disc burner or software not found"....what happened and how do I fix it?

What does disc burner or software not found mean? Never had a problem before. Any ideas?

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?

In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:

... and click "Next".

When you get through to the final screen:

User uploaded file

... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here. (Use your Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut to paste.)

I see a "Recovery (D:)"....no mention of a DVD or anything though.

Okay ... I think the issue is with the system, then. (It's not seeing the drive, so iTunes isn't seeing the drive.)

Try heading to the Dell support pages for your model and check through the general optical drive troubleshooting documentation.
