Please explain in-depth what delegate access provides

In iCal for Exchange servers there are three options in iCal.

I would like a bit more understanding of what these do. I have found that one of these sets the option for the delegate to receive copies of meeting requests to the user. Please could you clarify which one it is. Also do any of these settings enable the option to view private entries?
