iPhone 5 1080p video
My iTunes preferences are all set to 1080p for HD movie downloads, although Apple says my iPhone 5 will play 1080p video, its only downloading the 720p version to my device. Does anyone know why this is the case?
Thanks

Currently, 1080p content is compatible with iPad (3rd generation), Apple TV (3rd generation), and a Mac or PC. It is what it is.
your iphone 5 screen does not support 1080p. so what is the point of downloading 1080p? you will not see 1080 vertical lines, only 720 of them. now think and see.
This is directly from the iPhone 5 tech spec page.
"Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; ..."
If it can't seems like the marketing is a bit misleading.
haha...its 'marketing' all right..not science... 1080p video means 1080 number of vertical lines. iphone 5 is 1136x640. so it really doesnt even have the number of lines required for half-HD which is 720p. In any case, you won't see any difference viewing 720p vs 1080p on the iphone because the # of lines are just not there. Now if you are downloading and connecting to a hdtv and streaming thats a different thing because the hdtv will support 1080p. but the phone does not.
The iPhone 4s and newer does support 1080p videos (as all of the videos that you record with the iPhone are 1080p) and you can watch 1080p Podcasts, but you cannot "download" 1080p videos onto the iPhone.
