5th Generation Nano not recognized by iTunes

Thank you for your reply. have had my ipod and Itunes for a few years. I have again uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled but it says "the installer encouted errors before Itunes could be configured. Your system has not been modified. Run installer again ." I did this 3 more times - same message. so at the moment I am worse off than before. At least I did have all my music on Itunes on my Pc and on my iPod. I just couldn't sync it. First time ever. Now I've lost all my music on !Tunes - so frustrating.

Any ideas what to do now please?

Update. I've got itunes reinstalled at last after many tries but still my ipod is not recognised so back to the original problem.

Yes I have tried all you suggeted, thank you. I have now got ITuns reinstalled after many attempts and although the computer recognises my ipod the itunes doesn't

I am getting very frustrated with this! I tokk my IPod to the shop where I bought it a couple of years ago. The guy pugged it in to one of the compueters there and it worked perfectly! At home the ITunes still doesn't recognise my iPod although it says there is an Ipod attached to my computer but ITunes doesn't recognise it. I hav gain uninstalled ITubnes then reinstalled after closing the PC down - same story. I have followed all the insructions in ht eHelp area so now i will just have to use the Itunes on my PC for any new music I buy and burn CDs to use eslewhere which is a (like the car). Maybe it is something in the new PC that isn't aligned properly? I have been to services and it is all as it should be for apple devices so I'm mystified as to what I should do know

I uninstalled all the apple programs as you suggested and reinstalled iTunes. same message

"an iPod has been detected but it could not be identified properly. unpug and try agiain. Uninstall and reinstall ITunes "

Thanks for keeping in touch. I have been trying everything suggested but I think the problem is that the "Apple Mobile Deives support" isn't on the PC. To rectify I have followed all the instructions. Still no AMDS so I am going to speak to the store where i bought my PC and hopefully they will have a solution. I may have to have windows 7 reinstalled??.

At last success!! I had a virus in my PC. So after wiping everything off and starting all over again again we are back in business. Thank goodness for backing up files.
